What Is Digital Embossing?

In the Print Industry there are more and more ways of making your print have impact with the target market. The latest sensation is Digital Embossing. But what is Digital Embossing? Here's a definition.

Digital Embossing is a post print process which applies a high build varnish patented ink jet technology. The varnish is flash cured to form a hard crystal clear raise. Digital embossing gives a finish which may initially be compared to spot UV varnishing. But it is better, ten times better, because the ‘lift’ is more than 500 microns (0.5mm) which gives the effect of embossing your work.

So essentially Digital Embossing is a technique that can raise parts of an image on something such as a leaflet so that it has a raised texture when you touch it. This can be applied as a great marketing tool for campaigns that use printed materials.

For example in the Picture below the basketball is digitally embossed so little circles are raised so that the print has the same texture as a real Basketball. Also on this example the water droplets are raised to give the effect of water droplets on the page.

The scope for creativity is huge with Digital Embossing and it really does add another dimension to your printed marketing campaigns.
